Wieland's Knot - Pendant

The intertwined knot pattern of Wieland's pendant symbolizes since ancient times his supernatural craftsmanship. The nordic god's smith produced in his subterranean forge magic weapons and mystic jewelry and is said to have learned his craft from the mysterious dwarf Mime itself. His knot pattern therefore was worn to gain artistic skill and talent.
 
This pendant is made of pewter, a shiny, soft metal which is very malleable and has a good tarnish resistance. Artists and craftsmen used pewter quite early (dinnerware, sculptures, household articles, pewter figures, jewelry) and hence pewter jewelry has a long tradition. The word pewter is probably a variation of the word spelter, a colloquial name for the same metal.
