Welsh Dragon
Pendant
The banner of Wales shows a red Dragon on green ground and this pendant was inspired by this heraldic animal. The Welsh Dragon symbolizes the independence of Wales in the famous prophecy of the magician Merlin which could be gained by defeating the white Dragon, standing for the Saxons. This pendant shall bestow courage and success in all situations.
This pendant is made of pewter, a shiny, soft metal which is very malleable and has a good tarnish resistance. Artists and craftsmen used pewter quite early (dinnerware, sculptures, household articles, pewter figures, jewelry) and hence pewter jewelry has a long tradition. The word pewter is probably a variation of the word spelter, a colloquial name for the same metal.
