Moon Witch - Pendant

The moon witch shown on this pendant corresponds to the classical idea of the 13th and 14th century about women carrying out black magic. She owns a black cat, her connection to the devil and the dark side of the force, and is able to ride, with the help of her skills, on her broom. However, during the last hundred years the picture of the witch has changed a lot and today she stands for the magically gifted, wise woman advocating balance in nature. Therefore this pendant is said to bring luck and to increase one's own spiritual talents.
 
This pendant is made of pewter, a shiny, soft metal which is very malleable and has a good tarnish resistance. Artists and craftsmen used pewter quite early (dinnerware, sculptures, household articles, pewter figures, jewelry) and hence pewter jewelry has a long tradition. The word pewter is probably a variation of the word spelter, a colloquial name for the same metal.
