This old talisman originates from the magic book "Key of Solomon" which is said to have been written by the biblical king himself about 3000 years ago - in medieval times this charm has been extended using Christian symbols. Located in the center of the talisman a ring can be found which is divided into four quadrants by a cross. In these quadrants the letters ARAF are written in a clockwise order. ARAF stands for the purgatory of the Islamites which is located under the rocks of the Omer Mosque in Jerusalem. There according to Jewish belief the souls of the dead await judgment day before their resurrection. On the bottom left of the pendant we can see some crusaders standing outside the purgatory, on the right the sign for the Planet Saturn in snake form, a symbol for the overcome sin. Finally, on the top left, a single cross is located symbolizing the worldly earth. The big main crosses upper branch bends like a vine and thus symbolizes life and health. Therefore this medieval fortune charm was also worn to preserve one's good health and vitality and to gain more self-confidence.
