Lugh's Shield - Pendant

The Celtic Sun God Lugh had many different talents, amongst others he was a master of harp-playing. Furthermore he was considered as an exceptionally gifted storyteller and was proficient in the healing and the magic arts. This pendant shows Lugh's magic shield and is said to improve its wearer's existing abilities and to help him in developing varied new talents.
 
This pendant is made of pewter, a shiny, soft metal which is very malleable and has a good tarnish resistance. Artists and craftsmen used pewter quite early (dinnerware, sculptures, household articles, pewter figures, jewelry) and hence pewter jewelry has a long tradition. The word pewter is probably a variation of the word spelter, a colloquial name for the same metal.
