Eye of Horus - Pendant, Brass

The eye of the Falcon God Horus was one of the most important symbols of protection in old Egypt. According to Egyptian tradition Horus had a right Solar Eye and a left Lunar Eye, therewith observing day and night with his omniscient glance. His Solar Eye symbolized activity and the future, whereas his Lunar Eye stood for passiveness and the past. Because of Horus being able to see everything with his both eyes he was worshipped as a powerful protective God. And the Eye of Horus was very often placed on the left side of the sacrophagus so that the dead person was able to see the way he had to head for. This pendant is said to enable its wearer to live a healthy life and to increase his strength and vitality.
 
This pendant is made of brass and copper. With the exception of gold copper is the only colored metal and just like silver and gold it is classified as a precious metal. Due to its softness and malleableness copper is particularly suitable for the jewelry production. The brass, a copper zinc alloy, is responsible for the yellow golden parts of this piece of jewelry and the copper for the red golden ones.
