Chalice Well - Pendant

The Chalice Well with its cover plate, which inspired this pendant, still stands at the foot of Glastonbury Tor and therefore resides at that place at which the legendary Avalon is said to have been located in former times. The cover plate's three circles symbolize the three Celtic realms thus connecting the divine upper realm with the underworld of the dead and the middle realm of human beings. This way the design becomes a spiritual dimension gate to other worlds full of enchanted beings and magic creatures. And therefore this pendant is said to increase its wearer's intuition and empathy.
 
This pendant is made of pewter, a shiny, soft metal which is very malleable and has a good tarnish resistance. Artists and craftsmen used pewter quite early (dinnerware, sculptures, household articles, pewter figures, jewelry) and hence pewter jewelry has a long tradition. The word pewter is probably a variation of the word spelter, a colloquial name for the same metal.
